My personal opinion as a father, son and a grand uncle besides various other relationships, is that we do not need any of these to reinforce our affection and attachment with our parents. My 92 year old father and 38 year old son live with me and we run a very functional and happy bachelor home. This is possible because we care for each other deeply and we do not need special days to remember our attachments.

My sister and her husband looked after their parents and inlaws with great affection and care and I still remember my mother being so happy to be with them at every possible opportunity. I have many other cases within my family to share including a case of my male cousins looking after their parents till the very end.

Such days are perhaps needed in homes and countries where old people are sent off to old people's homes.
