Breast Feeding :Breastfeeding refers to the process by which a mother feeds her infant with milk directly from her breasts. Assuming the mother does not have certain illnesses, breast milk is widely believed to be the most beneficial for feeding young infants. It is even said that breastfeeding can strengthen the bond between mother and child. Still, some mothers choose not to participate in breastfeeding their infants and opt for store bought formula instead.

There are a number of benefits, which result from breastfeeding for infants. Among them, immediate milk that does not have to be heated as it is already at body temperature. In addition, some experts believe that breastfeeding decreases the risk of certain ailments, while increasing the healthy development of teeth and gums.Breastfeeding is without any doubt the most excellent means to nourish your newly born baby.

Dr. Michael S. Kramer, Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research followed a group of 14,000 children for six and a half years. He said, “Our study provides the strongest evidence to date that prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding makes kids smarter.”

The children were assessed by IQ tests their academic performance in reading, writing, mathematics and other subjects. The group of children who received prolong breatfeeding scored significantly higher.

Another study done by nutritionist James Anderson of University of Kentucky nutritionist found out that breastfed infants scored 5.2 IQ points more than formula fed infants.

“Our best estimates are that maternal bonding and the decision to breast-feed account for about 40 percent of that increase, but that 60 percent — 3.2 points — are related to the actual nutritional value of the breast milk,” he said.

Breast milk contains Omega-3 fatty acids -docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA) that promote brain development. These chemicals are absent in infant formula.

So breastfeeding improves intelligence, prevents your baby from any disease, improves bonding with your baby and is the best pacifier.
